Ah, it feels like yesterday that video football was played with an 8-directional joystick with one button, and primitive graphics where the players all resembled little squat robots. Things have changed since that time, thank the Lord. Back then, the sole offensive plan was grabbing your adversary and covering up his eyes at a critical moment in the game ( crucial being a relative term, nothing critical truly happened in Atari soccer ). That being said, if you want to defeat Madden 09, you are going to have to learn the fundamentals of offense. ‘Cause if your only plan is jump in front of your rival and cover his eyes, you will get your ass kicked… And not only in the game. Follow our advice, and you will soon give your rival a run for his money.
We all love playing offense more than defense. It is a no brainer – offense calls the shots. But in order to make the most of that, you actually need to know what the hell you’re doing. A successful offense suggests that you need to keep your rival making a guess at all times. So, as much as we do love passing, you are gonna have to go for the run.

yeah, we know, the running play isn’t precisely where you get to blow your rival out of the water with those amazing forty yard gains. And those small successes can total up to the giant win in Madden 09. It does not take a complete hell of a lot to get a first down, in the grand scenario. One disadvantage to running the ball : your rival can pretty much tell by the formation what you have planned. The good news is, even if your rival is on to you, there’s not very much he’ll do. Perhaps you have only gained a pair yards, but hey, better than nothing.

It was on GI Joe where we all learned the slogan [*CO]‘And knowing is half of the battle.’ In the case of Madden 09, knowing the right moves is 1/2 the battle ( and yes, using them correctly is the other half ). But know that those slick moves can make a huge difference. For example, sometimes all you need is a juke to throw the defense off course just long enough to slip by him and make your way down the field.

But which way to go? We won’t say this enough : learn all of the different plays. Know when to run up the middle, know when to go for a side play. Just know that when it comes to short yardage, going for the run is your most trustworthy weapon.

So if you would like to win ( and we all know you do ), then take our friendly recommendation, learn the moves, and practice in Madden tournaments. Winning is great. Destroying your opponent, humiliating him in front of all your buds, and totally cleaning out the poor guy’s bank account : precious.
